I had a little trouble with the scissors....
I couldn't wait to get started on the fabric mom sent me! Of course, I totally Charlie Browned the skirt I was making and it ended up as this dress. Please PLEASE don't look too closely at it...
By the way, getting a picture of this girl is quite impossible. Not only does she RUN away, she ZIGZAGS as she runs!!

Before and After
I got this at some antique store up by my house in Sandy for $15. I had it in my "to do" pile FOREVER. I dunno- I think it turned out kinda cute. Memories anyone??

Chocolate Chip 4th of July cookie
Aaron and i couldn't agree what dessert to bring to our friends 4th of July party so we made our own. This was my idea (i was feeling very festive today) and i think it turned out pretty well. if you want the recipe let me know. It's a keeper.

Just a few small things...
We have been involved in SO MANY projects lately, it's been hard keeping track of them all, let alone blogging about them! But we'll try to give a small glimpse of what's been happening...
This is the "Before" Picture.
The walls in our living room were this awful AZTEC GOLD. Didn't really fit my style...
This is the "After" picture.
A nice Windsor Greige background and faux wood
shutters were way more me!
and the actual table I got at the D.I.
After: The finished table. (It even has a leaf!)
Kate FINALLY got her name thing thanks to my cute neighbor, Chelsey, whom I use for everything (from painting my walls to cutting me vinyl letters. She's a doll.)
This clock has been traveling around with me for at least 9 years. I am sure I have a picture of it "before" I totally pimped it out and made it the most rockin' Jasmine clock on the planet... Kate loves it. And I made it. :)

Blessing #2,609
You can't really see the detail on this frame (and, it isn't a circle. It's oval), but it's FANCY and I needed some fancy pictures to put in it. Fortunately for me, my sister (Linds) is very crafty and sent Kate this adorable tutu for her b-day. AND my mother-in-law (or "moil") wanted to do a photo shoot. I am so excited to put this up- it turned out so cute. :)

Fishing for Primary songs
ok so compared to you guys i am lacking in the sewing.... outdoors.... holiday crafts ... painting... i could seriously go on and on. i do have occaional "crafty moments" though and i try to take advantage of them when i do. so.... out of one of my many lesson books i found these little fishy. i lamenated them and put primary song titles on the back. Since we are a little behind in our scripture reading i also put the scriptures that go with each of these songs. I wanted to do this daily but it never works out that way so we try and do it for FHE. it's so fun!! Especially if it's a new song because we can spend more time learning it and spencer's voice just makes your melt. I found a bunch of Fliparts of Sugardoodle.net for a lot of the primary songs and have them to help teach us the workds to the new songs.
The Noah's ark goes with the primary song "Follow the prophet." On the back of the animals is a different prophet in that song along with the scripture of the prophets more familiar story. the primary song fish go at the bottom of the ark and i leave it up everyday.

Valentine's Crafts
Yea, I am all Valentined out. I think I am going to have to skip St. Patrick's day and just concentrate on Easter because I need a break from all the crafts we've been doing. I didn't even include all the cupcake and cookie decorating we did. Maybe because I'm still so mad at the weight I put on because of it. . .
Valentine BINGO
This is a big hit! I did this to help Max learn his numbers. Helping...
Melted crayon hearts
Max loved using the vegetable peeler for this one.
Love Bug
We painted this old egg carton with Valentine colors and gave him some eyes, voila! I left Max for 5 SECONDS and he painted his whole hand. Learning to be messy from London I think.
The "bags" I made to put their V-day treats in. Not as cute as the fabric ones but SO much easier!
Mail Boxes
So not cute but the kids loved decorating them.
Valentine Butterflies
We cut out butterflies and glued them on clothespins. Max and London loved putting stickers and glitter all over them, quite an activity.

Valentine Countdown
So, I saw this on someone's blog and thought it was really cute. You just put cute little sayings on the back of each pebble, things like, make valentine cookies, tell soemone you love them, etc. I put vinyl stickers on the backs and mod podged a box of chocolates. I think it could be way cuter, but I just did it with stuff I had around the house and with the idea that the kids would probably tear it apart. Here is the link to where I got the idea, hers is WAY cuter! Still, I like the idea because there are soooo many fun things to do around Valentine's but it makes it a little bit more spaced out. Plus it's always fun to have another Valentine's decoration!

2009 Book Tally
Ok the numbers are in and I am proud to report that i've reached my Reading goal of 42 books for the year. Yep, you read that right...42 books. I will admit to re-reading some personal favorites but the rest were new. And after completing this magnificent volume i am sad to report that i only enjoyed about 1/2 of them. I'm sick of reading books that i have to cross out naughty words or have no interest in only after i bought it. So for 2010 my new goal will be focusing on "Quality instead of Quantity."
Here are my favorites of the year and would ask you for yours.
1-"A Bride most Begrudging" Deeanne Gist. (good CLEAN romance)
2-"Four Spirits" Sena-Jester Naskund. (Her books are rather lengthy but this one is Alabama during the 60's. Fantastic relationship between races.)
3-"Emma" Anita Stansfield. (Emmas Smith's story.)
4-"The Partner" John Grisham. (he gets off but will he get the girl & the $$ he stole?)
5-"The Porter Rockwell Chronicles" Richard Lloyd Dewey. (i finished it in like 2 days. i loved it and can't wait to get the rest.)hint hint my relatives who live in Utah
6-"The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" Mary Ann Shaffer. 2009 Fave (Journal entry writing. fun characters and interesting subject.)
7-"Dear John" Nicholas Sparks. (a different kind of love story)
8-"BOOK OF MORMON" Need i say more?
9-"The women who knew Hitler" Ian Sayer.(Answers the age old question "who could ever love a butcher?")
10-"The Measure of a Lady" Deeanne Gist. (Gold rush boom in CA and being the only Lady in the state.)
11-"New Moon" Stephenie Meyer.(better the 2nd time around.) I'm still an Edward fan.
12-17 Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum classics
18-"Picture Bride" Yoshiko Uchida. (Arranged marriages/Japanese culture in CA during WWII.)
19-"Mr and Mrs Fitzwilliam Darcy" Sharon LAthan. (Sappy romance but you fall in love with Mr. Darcy all over again. That is if you can stomach their verbal love for each other.)
20-"Grace" by Richard Paul Evans. (Teenage relationships/abusive home life.)

Twirly Skirts
Ok, so they are definitely not perfect and probably not the cutest pattern, but they are something I have wanted to try. At first I looked at the pattern and cringed. I had to read through it SEVERAL times and even as I followed directions, just keep rereading the entire process over again. I think I need projects like this to keep my brain working properly!
The first one (the brown one with the enormous button) took me an entire day to finish, the second one only a few hours. I think if I just keep practicing, maybe I can try an even cuter pattern. Maybe not. We'll see.
